Cover note This theme issue has been edited by Ed Wagner from
Seattle and Trish Groves and Greg Cotton from the BMJ. The cover
is based on data from Harvard Public School of Health's project on
the global burden of disease. The red sections represent the burden
of chronic diseases in the developing world,the green sections show
the burden from injuries, and the blue sections show the burden from
infectious, maternal and perinatal, and nutritional diseases.
The cover design is by Michael Robinson.
