I have finished basic training in paediatrics, have completed my exams, and feel this is the right time for SpR applications. I have also been given the opportunity to apply for an excellent research fellow post, which would be of benefit in the long run. My concern is that if I miss out on an SpR number now for the sake of a three year research post I will be at a disadvantage when I apply for what will then be higher specialty training posts. Is research now a bad idea?
