As a medical student I never enjoyed hospital medicine, but was always assured by older students and doctors that things would improve after I graduated. So, perhaps foolishly, I continued on in the hope that everything would get better. Unfortunately, I am now in my F2 year and nothing has changed. General practice has never appealed to me. I am required next month to make important decisions about how to progress in medicine. I would like some advice on careers available to me outside hospital medicine and general practice, so my six and a half undergraduate and postgrad years are not completely wasted.

I'm hoping to finish my reg year in August 2007 and I'm stuck, not knowing where and when I should be looking for jobs. I'm hoping to get a job in London or the south east of England but I've heard it is next to impossible to get anything as there are no partnerships and the locum/salaried job market is completely saturated. If I pass MRCGP what do you think I should do?
